These instructions are for a 6" block (finished).
To make a Maple Leaf Quilt Block for the Fall Season, you will need to cut the following fabric from your favorite Fall prints. I used a brown/gold fabric for the leaf and a cream print for the background.
Cutting
From Dark Fabric:
Cut TWO (2) 3-1/4" squares
Cut THREE (3) 2-1/2" squares
Cut ONE (1) 1" x 4" rectangle for leaf stem
From Cream Background Fabric:
Cut TWO (2) 2-1/4" squares
Cut ONE (1) 2-1/2" square
Cut ONE (1) 3-1/2" square on the diagonal.

Making the Half Square Triangles
Make four (4) half square triangles with the dark and background 3-1/4" squares.
Press seams towards the dark leaf fabric.
Trim half square triangles to measure 2-1/2".

Making the Stem
To make the stem, sew the rectangle to one of the cut triangles. You will do this by placing the rectangle on the long side of the triangle, right sides together. The triangle is cut on the bias, so be sure not to stretch it. Press the seam towards the rectangle, repeat on the other side of the rectangle. Press.
Trim and square up the stem block to 2-1/2".

Constructing the Block
Lay out your pieces and sew the rows together as in the photo. You will need to alternate the direction of pressing so that you can "nest" the seams. Pin before sewing.

2. Press and square the block. You now have a Maple Leaf quilt block.

I hope you learned something new and have enjoyed this little tutorial.
Happy Quilting,
Jen
